Gantry crane: for yards, stockyards and halls
A gantry crane stands on its own legs and travels on rails at ground level, so it does not load the building structure. It suits outdoor yards, stockyards and halls that cannot carry a crane runway. - Outdoor handling: stockyards, steel and precast yards, loading areas.
- The building cannot carry a runway, or there is no building.
- Bulk materials such as gravel, sand or waste, with a grab.
- Changing workplaces where a mobile solution is needed (PORTMOT, mobile gantry).
If the hall can carry a runway and the floor must stay clear, an overhead crane is usually the better solution.
GD gantry cranes
Gantry and semi-gantry crane
1 to 160 t, single or double girder, with one or two cantilevers or without. Hook, grab or special lifting attachments. On a semi-gantry, one side runs on an elevated rail, e.g. on the building. A GD speciality: a semi-gantry whose floor-level end carriage needs no rail (recommended up to 10 t).
PORTMOT motorised gantry crane
Rolls directly on the floor and turns through 360°. Capacities 1, 1.6, 2, 3.2, 5 and 6.3 t, span up to 10 m, height of lift up to 6 m. Pendant or radio control, battery version available.
Mobile gantry crane
Free-standing runway on legs with castors: 500 kg to 5 t, runway length up to 6 m, height of lift up to 4 m. Moved to a new position in minutes when unloaded.
Controls
- Operator cab or control stand on the crane, for constant supervision.
- Pendant control: a simple, cost-effective solution for smaller systems.
- Radio remote control: the operator works from a safe distance with a clear view of the load.
What does a gantry crane cost?
Mainly capacity and span, which decide between single and double girder. The number and length of cantilevers, rails and foundations, outdoor design, the lifting attachment (hook, grab, special gripper) and the controls also count.
